Investigations into Apple and Samsung that followed accusations worldwide that consumers were encouraged to install system updates that negatively impacted their devices in order to speed up the process of buying a newer device. These updates were not done with adequate notice or warnings that the update could negatively affect them.
Apple and Samsung haven’t provided a way to recover the full functionality of devices that have had this issue happen to them which has led to countless accusations worldwide.
Apple and Samsung were fined €10m and €5m a piece following investigations that determined they held “unfair commercial practices”.
Both companies will also be required to publish an “amending declaration” on the Italian pages of their websites, linking back to the ruling.
